The Laser Master 3, released in August 2023 as the third generation of Ortur's desktop line, pairs a 445nm diode laser module with a 32-bit ESP32-based mainboard and a rigid 2020 aluminum-extrusion frame. Engraving speed reaches 20,000mm/min with 0.01mm positional repeatability driven by TMC2209 silent stepper drivers and dual-axis linear rails. The integrated air-assist pump clears debris from the cut path, reducing charring on wood and improving edge quality on acrylic. An emergency stop button, gyroscope-based tilt sensor, and flame-detection firmware provide three independent safety layers.
Upgraded optics and 24V power system for faster, deeper engraving across 400 x 400mm. A proven workhorse for small-batch production.

New to laser engraving? We have got answers to the questions we hear most often.
Ortur diode lasers engrave and cut over 1,000 materials: wood, plywood, MDF, acrylic, leather, fabric, paper, cardboard, rubber, anodized aluminum, stainless steel (marking), coated metals, stone, slate, glass (with marking spray), and various plastics. Cutting thickness depends on material density and laser power — our 20W module cuts 8mm plywood in a single pass at moderate speed.
Most users finish assembly in 20 to 30 minutes using only the included hex wrench set. The machine arrives partially pre-assembled — you attach the gantry to the frame, mount the laser module, and connect the cables. Our free software (LaserGRBL and LightBurn compatible) walks you through homing, focus adjustment, and your first test file. No prior CNC experience required.
Ortur builds safety into every machine: an emergency stop button halts the laser instantly, a gyroscope detects accidental tilts or knocks and shuts down the beam, active position monitoring pauses the job if the controller loses its reference, and flame-detection firmware stops engraving when abnormal light is sensed. We still recommend using the included safety goggles and operating in a ventilated space.
The wattage refers to optical output power. A 5W module handles engraving on wood, leather, and paper and can cut thin materials (up to 3mm plywood). The 10W module increases cut depth to around 5-6mm plywood in a single pass and handles stainless steel marking. The 20W module cuts 8mm plywood in one pass, marks bare metals more effectively, and works faster on the same jobs — choose based on your typical workload and material thickness.
Ortur machines work with LaserGRBL (free, Windows), LightBurn (paid, cross-platform, widely regarded as the most capable option), and the Ortur companion app for Wi-Fi-equipped models. LightBurn supports raster engraving, vector cutting, grayscale image processing, and rotary axis control. You import SVG, PNG, JPG, DXF, or AI files and the software handles toolpath generation automatically.
Every Ortur machine ships with a 12-month warranty covering the laser module, mainboard, and mechanical components. The laser diode module carries a separate 6-month warranty at rated operating conditions. We stock replacement parts in our Shenzhen, Los Angeles, and Hamburg warehouses for shipment within 48 hours. Our support team is reachable by email, live chat, and our community forum. A 30-day money-back policy applies to machines purchased through authorized channels — if it does not meet your expectations, return it for a full refund.
A diode laser is not the right tool for every job, and we think honesty about that helps you make a better decision. If your work primarily involves cutting clear acrylic or polycarbonate, a CO2 laser (10,600nm wavelength) is necessary — the 445-455nm diode beam passes through transparent materials without absorption. CO2 machines also cut thicker materials faster: a 50W CO2 handles 12mm plywood versus 8mm for our 20W diode. On the other hand, diode lasers mark bare metals directly (CO2 machines need marking compounds), cost 70-90% less, require virtually no maintenance, and fit on a desk. For mixed workshops, some of our users run both: an Ortur for daily engraving and metal marking, and a CO2 unit for acrylic and thick-stock jobs.
